xHTML & CSSeXtensible Hyper Text Markup Language & Cascading Style Sheets are two of the most basic, and reasonably important fundamentals of webpage layout. Share your tips, and discuss on those in this section
I know all the theory and stuff of xHTML & CSS and can implement them to make a layout as well. I've to learn how to make it valid & cross-browser compliant though.
Thing is that I don't know what & how to practice it. I won't get any projects, because I've no experience of doing it earlier. So, If possible I could create/ download .psd's and try coding them.
Or any other method you suggest? And where to download psd's?

I couldn't think of any other way, but one cross my thought.
Go to DP, start a thread on coding PSD to xHMTL, for free. Just for practicing after all.
cheers.

yes, get some PSD files your design your own, try to code the design, always try new options and you'll find that there are several ways to accomplish a specific effect, but in time you will realize what's best and when to use a specific way.
it's all about practicing and trying things out, also search for some tips/tricks - would be very helpful.
as for browser compatibility it's highly recommended these days to use liquid site - not fixed. use values such as percentages % and ems. you can always attach CSS documents for IE to fix layout bugs and stuff.
you can always contact me for assistance

There's no reason you can't use a fixed width, just be sure to optimize it for the majority of resolutions. Depending on your target audience, the standard should be 1024x768. Percentages can mess up the aesthetic of certain designs, and IE (as far as I know) isn't a big fan of minimum values.
As far as practicing goes, why not try just making a layout? Open up your favorite text editor and get familiar with the code. I would suggest NOT using any WYSIWYG editors, because they auto generate a lot of things, and you won't learn as much.
