Default how do you normally install applications and stuff on a vps?

can your normally install your own applications, e.g. a game server or cvs server on a vps? if so how does it normally work? i guess you upload the install files then run some sort of shell commans? thanks

I guess you need WAMP or similar applications to run everything
and connect server files with a game client

Think a VPS tech staff is helpful in that.
Hostingsource has done that for their clients.

You can also hire a server administrator to outsource your job which can handle installs and security of your server.
