Do anybody know any stats or more detail info on this business? There're are tons of applications on FB, and many of them are free... and they live on advertisement. And we all know that the ads revenue on SN is not great, you almost must have huge huge volume of traffic to make it profitable. I always wonder how can company just create the FB app and survive. Are they just using it as extension to promote other biz? I think this is an interesting topic for us to discuss more here!

I definitely think that companies can not live on the app alone. They need to at least have some other form of biz to go along.

Apps are hard to promote as well sometimes, although now they have the automatically send invites to all your friends without you knowing function.

I wonder how hard it is to make an app. There are so many out there that I don't know if people would be able to think of an original idea.

Any thoughts?

Facebook Applications are the source of income for some companies alone too. The point is that your application just needs to be viral. You need to be creative and create apps which are open and addictive. Not the kind where you visit once and then boom. Polls are like this. Games are addictive and can bring huge revenue.

Try games like Mobwars..company which develops it does this as a full time business according to me. They have got lot of apps, have a dedicated site, support staff and earn a lot from their site - this is what I found from information on their site.
