Which brings us back to the purpose of this thread, if anyone can think of any ideas to get more members in let's hear them. Obviously the current ideas are competitions and blog commenting and forum sigs. I'm doing all of these but don't have the time to promote them massively.
First, if I were you, I'd mail the members to spark some activity.
1) Write a report, distribute it for free.
2) Do article marketing, it can get a HECK lot of exposure.
3) Use PPC. More you give more you get.

If you're done messing around with the blog theme and you can verify it's customized, I'll do a review of it on Blog by Design. I've redone the review structure/ideas to try and be more positive.
I'll put a link in the diligent footer too.

First off, let me clear you that I'm no flipping guru - so whoever got those terms - take'em off. I'm good at Flipping but I'm no guru or something.
I won't answer this long but if you can understand, understand this:
A guy this September launched a product. He is not a "guru", heck he was not even known in the IM field. He worked hard on his product launch (here he was a newbie as "STZ"). He gave his product to the "gurus" for reviews and JV's, but no one agreed. What happened, you may ask? He made $600,000+ in sales at a product of $1997 and 306~ sales.
See, he was no "guru", he did not have a "name", he was not recommended by "gurus" - but the thing was he knew his stuff. He knew what he was doing - and he did it. If he were to think Why in the world would anyone buy a $1997 product from someone who is not known in the IM field, without recommendations from a guru, he'll be sitting on a whopping $60.
------------------------------
So, the thing is you're mixing two situations here. First is "informative replies from those who know their stuff" and second is "reputation". Now, STZ might not have some kind of reputation, BUT that never means a paid area won't be successful. Example? Read the above paragraph. And if you read my previous posts, I stressed on "If value is provided". Nobody in his right mind would buy a product that has zero value.
And for this particular statement,
There are two people - A and B. A is a green newbie and hasn't done any research, doesn't know what a forum is. He has the resources though, to learn things.
B has done research and knows where to go to find solid information.
Now, for A - warriorforums and STZ would be the same - because he does not know the difference. For B, he will hesitate to put in his money.
-------------------------
From my small mind, I can interpret that you are saying STZ, and it's staff, and it's members cannot provide the value - fine, then don't think about a paid section because all you'll get is refund requests. First thing is confidence in oneself to succeed in what you plan to.
You know what? I've earned $10,000+ in the last two months off my products. I'm not even close to an expert status, intermediate to be honest - but I catered to the right market and had the confidence that people will like my product. If I were to think Why the heck would people buy my products when I have no reputation and am a single guy to answer their questions - I would be sitting on a whopping $10.
It's all up to you guys though - You rule, your rules.
For me, if you can create a paid area, put in good stuff there and have the confidence to market it, I don't see any reason Why you won't succeed? Sure some people who are here right now won't pay - but ONE HECK OF A PEOPLE WILL.
And then who is saying to pretend knowing all the stuff and answering every question in a flash. Something like $17 for life-time ("for now") would be good enough. At least it'll inspire people to put in good stuff rather than the usual chit-chat talks.
EDIT
~Nevermind, not my business. ~

I'm not saying you're wrong, buddy. I'm open to constructive discussion. It's my point of view (that I put), and others may differ and I may be wrong.
